Foaling Concludes at Pencarrow

Foaling at Pencarrow Stud concluded last week on a bright note when Grand Echezeaux (Zabeel x Richebourg, by Vice Regal)) produced a bay colt by New Zealand’s leading sire this season, Pins.

A winner of the Group 1 Australasian Oaks, Grand Echezeaux produced $1.1 million dollar yearling, Darci Brahma (Danehill), with her first foal, a champion racehorse and now first season sire.

Stakes-placed Saperavi (Stravinsky) followed from Grand Echezeaux, along with two Redoute’s Choice colts, the second of which will provide the highlight of the 2010 Karaka Premier Yearling Sale from the Pencarrow draft.

The latest Pins colt is the sixth foal for Grand Echezeaux and the last of 58 foals successfully delivered by Pencarrow Stud manager Leon Casey and his experienced staff.

Colts slightly out-numbered fillies this year, which is good news for prospective Karaka Yearling Sale purchasers given the Penacarrow policy of retaining the vast majority of the daughters produced by their exclusive broodmare band.

Grand Echezeaux visits leading Australasian sire Pentire this season, with the resulting Pentire/Sir Tristram cross found in the likes of Group 1 winners Xcellent and Art Success, as well as Group winners Pentathon and Sir Pentire.
