Toorak Confirmed For Darci Brahma
26 Sep 2006 Darci Brahma will bypass the Gr I $1 million Kelt Capital Stakes at Hastings on October 7 and head to Australia for the remainder of his spring racing.
Darci Brahma was a group one winner as a two-year-old in Australia and will be chasing his second Australian group one success when he contests the A$350,000 Toorak Handicap (1600m) at Caulfield on October 14.
"We left him in the Kelt and it was an option, but we probably see him more of a sprinter-miler now," said trainer Mark Walker.
"To start in the Kelt would have meant he would have to step up from 1400m to 1600 and then to 2000m at his first three starts in a new campaign."
Darci Brahma produced a truly courageous performance when chasing home the great mare Seachange in last Saturday's Gr I $150,000 Stoney Bridge Stakes at Hastings.
Darci Brahma refused to give in as the two fought head-to-head over the final 200 metres, going under by just a short head at the finish.
Adding to the merit of Darci Brahma's performance was the fact he lost a shoe in the early stages of the race.
"He was a bit footsore on Sunday morning," said Walker.
"Losing the plate couldn't have helped, but you can't take anything away from Seachange."
