Ensoleille Wins With Ease

Pencarrow Stud bred and owned Ensoleille (Van Nistlerooy x Cheerful by Starway) eased away to an easy victory at Te Rapa on Saturday.

Partnered by Alan Peard, who has ridden the five-year-old twice before including her first start, Ensoleille showed early speed before being asked to settle midfield.

Turning for home Ensoleille quickly raced to the leaders and eased away hitting the line strongly.

The second win for the mare, her previous coming over 2000 metres, and only her second start in this campaign, she is looking like she is at her strongest and will be stepping up over ground very soon.

Ensoleille is the fifth foal to race from Cheerful and the fourth individual winner, Cheerful herself a seven-time winner including the Group 3 Cuddle Stakes when trained by Sheila Laxon.

At present Cheerful is in foal to Fast’n’ Famous with a Lucky Unicorn colt at foot. Cheerful was represented at Karaka this year with a Fastnet Rock colt which was snapped up for $250,000 by John McArdle’s Redgum Racing, Victoria.
