Walker To Ride Darci Brahma
28 Jan 2005Singapore-bound jockey Michael Walker will ride million-dollar colt Darci Brahma (NZ) (by Danehill) in his debut race at Avondale on Monday.
After two wins at the trials the race-day debut of Mark Walker-trained Darci Brahma is eagerly anticipated in the 1200m event.
Michael Walker is leaving for Singapore next week to take up a six-month riding contract with expatriate Kiwi trainer Paddy Busuttin. Originally Opie Bosson was booked to ride Darci Brahma but the colt has only received 53kg which ruled him out and Walker was given the nod as the replacement rider.
Mark Walker said Darci Brahma had thrived since his latest trial win at Paeroa. “His work at the track has been very solid and we are expecting a good run from him first-up,” Walker said.
Darci Brahma was sold by Pencarrow Stud at the 2004 Premier Yearling Sale at Karaka for $1.1 million and purchased by prominent New Zealand buyer David Ellis.
Darci Brahma is the first foal of the Group 1 winning mare Grand Echezeaux (NZ) (Zabeel) and is from the family of champion racemare, Ethereal (NZ) (Rhythm).
