Felenic Racing Today
29 Jan 2005Royally bred three-year-old Felenic will be having her fourth raceday start at the Canterbury Racing Clubs meeting at Riccarton Park, Christchurch. Felenic will line up in Race five on the card at 3.02pm in the Christchurch Casino Southern Summer Challenge over 1500m and raced under special maiden conditions.
Felenic (Cape Cross ex Marmalitre by Wolverton) is trained at Ashburton by Jan Hay and will be ridden by regular jockey Judy Lawson. Felenic has drawn barrier number one in a field of sixteen horses and she will carry 53.5kgs.
Felenic is by Cape Cross out of Group I South Australian Oaks winner Marmalitre (by Wolverton). Cape Cross is the sire of British Horse of the Year Ouija Board as well as being 2003 Champion British and Irish Sire of Two-Year-Olds. He is the sire of twelve stakes winners and is represented at the 2005 Karaka Premier Sale by eight yearlings (five fillies and three colts).
Marmalitre is the dam of Pavan (by Centaine), who placed second in both the Group I New Zealand Oaks and Group I Australasian Oaks. Pavan will be represented by a Black Minnaloushe (by Storm Cat) colt at the 2005 Premier Sale. The colt is catalogued as lot number 74 and will sell on the first day of the Premier Sale (January 31st, 2005).
Pencarrow Stud will also offer one yearling by Centaine ex Grace and Power (by Brief Truce). Lot 437 will sell on Wednesday. This colt is a half-brother to two-time winner El Bulli (by Zabeel) and unbeaten two-year-old Abbey Drive (by Zabeel). This colt is a close relation to 1998 & 1999 Australian Horse of the Year Might and Power (also by Zabeel).
Marmalitre is a half-sister to Group III Southland Racing Club Invercargill Gold Cup winner Coutet (by Nuage d’Or). Coutet is the dam of Group I AJC Epsom Handicap winner Allez Suez (by Canny Lad) who was bred and sold by Pencarrow Stud. Pencarrow Stud will offer a colt by Canny Lad, ex Zinarush (by Carnegie). Lot 244 will sell on the second day of the Premier Sale.
Pencarrow Stud will offer twenty yearlings at the Premier Session of the 79th National Yearling Sale Series which commences at Karaka at 11am on Monday 31st January 2005.
