Winning Belle Favourite For Doncaster
24 Mar 2005Pencarrow Stud-bred four-year-old mare Winning Belle is the ruling favourite for Monday's $A2 million Doncaster Handicap (1600m) at Royal Randwick.
At her last start Winning Belle beat all but champion mare Makybe Diva in the Gr. 1 Australian Cup (2000m) at Flemington.
She returns to Sydney where she will be part of leading trainer Gai Waterhouse's bid for a record-equalling seventh Doncaster Handicap win.
Australian bookmaker Colin Tidy has listed Winning Belle as $6.50 favourite.
Winning Belle has drawn barrier nine for the Doncaster.
On the local scene interest for Pencarrow Stud will centre on the Auckland premier race meeting where last weekend's winner, Darcybee, backs up and looks a big each-way chance in race six, the Jacks Fruit Supply 1200. She has drawn barrier seven.
Also appearing at Ellerslie is the Pencarrow owned-and-bred mare, Filante Etoile, in the final race at 5.33pm, the Mink Cafe 2200. She finished eighth last time out in the New Zealand Bloodstock Breeders' Stakes at Te Aroha.
On Monday Kistler flies the flag for the Pencarrow Stud breed lining up at the Riccarton Park meeting.
