Bon Genie Breaks Through

Bon Genie Breaks Through
The lightly-tried Pencarrow filly Bon Genie broke through for her first win at New Plymouth on Thursday. Partnered by James McDonald the strongly made filly quickly hit the front to withstand a late challenge from Victoria Montana, with an eventual winning margin of a neck.

By Cape Cross she is the eleventh, and last, foal of the Secretariat mare Department who passed away after Bon Genie was born, and is the only filly retained by Pencarrow Stud from the mare. Trained by Mark Walker, she has now delivered three cheques from three starts.

Department was imported in-foal to Danehill with the resulting filly going on to race as Division to win three races. The half-sister to two Group 1 winners in America (Slew o' Gold and Coastal), she also left a No Excuse Needed colt called Victory Speed that is placed in Hong Kong.
