Pencarrow Colours to the Fore in Ireland

Flying the colours of Pencarrow stud in Ireland Barbadine broke through the maiden ranks at her third start.

Racing over the 1800m journey Barbadine (Giant’s Causeway x Damson) jumped nicely and settled into fourth place, enjoying the trip of the race. After straightening jockey WM Lordam asked the filly to let down and she quickly took over galloping to the line under no pressure to win by three lengths.

Trained by David Wachman, Barbadine was having her first start back this preparation and she looks a lot stronger and has certainly improved during her break. Out of the Group One winner Damson who is a winner of four races, Barbarine is the only foal to races from the young mare. She is owned by Peter and Philip Vela and long time friends David and Diane Nagle of Barronstown Stud.

Another highlight over the weekend for the Pencarrow team was the first black type placing for Via Veneto (Cape Cross x Shopping Spree) in the Windsor Park Stud Breeders Stakes over 1200m. Flying home for fourth the three year old filly was only a neck away from the winner, Riomoral.
