Showing his preference for easing in the ground, the lightly tried Gordon Roberts trumped his consistent form to secure a well deserved win yesterday at Wanganui in the rating 70 Konami 1600.

Jumping from the number one barrier Gordon Roberts(Encosta De Lago x Gordon’s, by Kaapstad) was a given a gun ride by Opie Bosson, ending up in the box seat. Peeling off the rail before turning for home the gap opened up for the big chestnut gelding and he held off all challanges winning by three quarters of a length to The Music.

Trained by Mark Walker for Peter and Philip Vela, Trevor Farmer and Mark Wyborn, Gordon Roberts now takes his winning tally to two.
Gordon Roberts was purchased from the 2008 Karaka Premier Sale from Phoenix Park by David Ellis for $260,000.
