Posavina Sets Off on Oaks Dream

Pencarrow bred and raced Posavina (Tiger Hill x Dance My Dance, by Sadler’s Wells) broke her maiden status at Ellerslie on Sunday in a one and a quarter length romp over 1600m.

The $10,000 maiden race drew a strong field of 12 with Posavina starting as equal third favourite after strong finishes at her two previous starts at Matamata and Rotorua.

The long striding filly was expected to enjoy the roomy Ellerslie track and, after settling behind midfield for James McDonald, Posavina looped the field and proved superior down to the line in 1.35.90, which was close to a second faster than the Rating 70 gallopers took to complete the same journey later on the race-card.

By successful sire Tiger Hill, also the sire of Pencarrow-bred Martial Art who finished fourth in the Listed Great Northern Guineas Prelude (2100m) on the same day, Posavina is bred to get an Oaks trip with her dam by supreme classic producer Sadler’s Wells.

Holding a nomination for the Group 1 NZ Oaks on 20 March, Posavina is set to contest Group level at her next start when she competes in the $100,000 Group 2 New Zealand Bloodstock Royal Stakes (2000m) on New Year’s Day at Ellerslie.

Dance My Dance produced a bay filly by Holy Roman Emperor this season and she looks set to join the Pencarrow racing academy in the coming years where she will join Posavina and their two-year-old half-sister by Stravinsky.

Dance My Dance visited speed gifted Danehill son Darci Brahma in his third season at Stud in 2009.
