Quinta De Lago Progresses

Quinta De Lago (Encosta De Lago x Slip Sliding, by Thunder Gulch) returned to the winner’s circle on Friday at Rotorua when overwhelming a few promising gallopers in the Schweeb 1950 (1950m).

Having shown promise since early on in his career Quinta De Lago continued his progression this season as a four-year-old when beating I’m Jake (Pins) and Pentina (Pentire) by two and a quarter lengths and two lengths respectively at the middle distance.

Settled at the tail of the field by James McDonald, Quinta De Lago swooped around the field 600m from home and easily finished over the top of his rivals whilst giving a strong display of his staying qualities.

The win also clearly highlighted his preference for a good-rated galloping surface on which he has now won both his races and placed three times from nine attempts.

Set to progress through the staying ranks for trainer Mark Walker, Quinta De Lago gave his ownership of Peter and Philip Vela, Mark Wyborn, and Trevor Farmer added recent success on the back of Noble Manor (Stravinsky) in Singapore and Group 1 NZ Derby bound Martial Art (Tiger Hill).

The partnership purchased the good looking Quinta De Lago for $725,000 at the 2008 Premier Yearling Sale from the draft of Curraghmore Stud.

A full brother to Quinta De Lago has been catalogued at Karaka 2010, Lot 172, also in Gordon Cunningham’s Curraghmore Stud.

Regally-bred, Quinta De Lago is out of a half-sister to Group 1 racehorse and successful sire Dehere, with the family also producing this season’s Group 2 AAMI Vase winner Hanks (Encosta De Lago).
