Bibulous Bites Back

Bibulous (Faltaat x Battocchi, by Success Express) was back at Te Rapa today and back in the winner’s circle when finishing powerfully to take the $7,000 Vero Insurance (1400m).

The five-year-old son of Faltaat clearly relishes the Waikato’s premier track having now won all three of his races on the left-handed course.

Today with James McDonald aboard Bibulous settled in his customary tail of the field position before McDonald asked his charge to work to midfield approaching the home turn.

Given a breather as the field galloped into the home straight, Bibulous was asked to find again, and he did so finally catching Chumleigh Lad (Quorum) to score by a short neck.

The winning time was 1.24.53 with the second place-getter carrying some five kilograms less than Bibulous who has now won over $40,000 in 12 starts.

One of five individual winners for his dual Listed winning dam Battocchi, Bibulous is trained by Bruce Wallace at Takanini and he currently holds a nomination for the Group 1 Thorndon Mile (1600m) set for Trentham on 30 January.

Bibulous will seek to become the first black-type earner for Battocchi who produced a bay colt by Darci Brahma this year for Pencarrow on 10 November with another foal by the Group 1 winning stallion expected in 2010.
