Pezzaglia Pointed at Desert Gold

Pezzaglia (High Chaparral x Paolino, by Housebuster) gave Pencarrow back to back wins today at Te Rapa when she accelerated from a seemingly impossible position to win the Technical Welding Services (1200m).
The win was her second from just three starts with all of her victories thus far having been over the same course and distance.
Ridden for the first time today by James McDonald, Pezzaglia settled behind midfield in running and by the time the field turned for home she looked in an unenviable position with a wall of horses either side.
Tough as a tiger Pezzaglia made her own room and with 50m to run still looked too far off the favourite Siem Reap (Bertolini) who had lead as he liked and kicked in the straight.
Pezzaglia proved a class above however and dive bombed on the line to score by a nose in a beautifully patient and well timed ride by New Zealand’s champion jockey.
Her superiority has connections aiming her talent towards competing against Katie Lee next in the Group 3 Desert Gold Stakes at Trentham on 30 January, the seventh event in the ten-race New Zealand Bloodstock Filly of the Year Series.
Pezzaglia is out of Group 2 winner Paolino (Housebuster), herself a half-sister to 2000 NZB Filly of the Year Sarwatch being out of the Riverina Charm, a four time Group 1 winner.
Pezzaglia, bred and raced by Pencarrow, will be represented by a yearling half-brother at Karaka 2010 in the Pencarrow Stud draft. The bay colt by O’Reilly, Lot 86, is also a full-brother to Listed juvenile winner Mirandola, while his close relatives include leading Singapore sprinter Noble Manor (Stravinsky), and last season’s Group 1 Queen of the Turf Stakes winner Neroli (Viscount).
