Pencarrow Yearlings Travel to Karaka 2010

Pencarrow Stud’s 20 strong yearling draft have completed their education and preparation and are today headed for the Karaka sale grounds where they will be sold as part of the 483-lot Premier Sale.
Renowned for presenting yearlings in tip-top order, stud manager Leon Casey and his yearling staff will this year offer a draft consisting of 18 colts and two blue-blood fillies.
The star of the draft, and a one of the stars of Karaka 2010, is Lot 431, a three-quarter brother to champion racehorse Darci Brahma who was sold by Pencarrow at this Sale in 2004 where he fetched $1,100,000 to the wink of David Ellis.
By leading Australasian sire Redoute’s Choice, Lot 431 has attracted plenty of interest at the numerous on-farm parades conducted for trainers, agents, and leading owners over the past month.
“Pre-sale exposure for our yearlings has been very good. The regular buyers have been, and a good number of new agents and trainers have also been through,“ commented stud manager Leon Casey on the high level of interest shown in the 2010 Karaka draft.
Other highlight Lots include Pencarrow’s very first yearling through the ring, Lot 26, a bay three-quarter brother to NZB Filly of the Year Insouciant (Keeper).
The imposing colt forms part of the much anticipated first crop of Pencarrow-bred Darci Brahma who is represented by 68 yearlings, eight of which form part of the Pencarrow 2010 Karaka yearling draft.
Two of these are fillies give buyers a unique opportunity to buy into some quality families – both local and international.
Lot 85 is a bay filly out of a Deputy Minister half-sister to Group 1 winning sprinter and successful sire Honour and Glory, while Lot 254, a Darci Brahma filly out of Group 1 winner Zino Belle (Success Express), is chance to get into the Belle family which has produced leading juveniles the likes of Dance Hero, Belle De Jour, Perfectly Ready, and Stripper in current seasons.
Other sires represented in the Pencarrow draft include champion sire Zabeel (1), leading sire Redoute’s Choice (3), proven New Zealand-based sires O’Reilly (1), Pins (3), and Keeper (1), speed oriented Australian sires Commands (1) and Fastnet Rock (1), and well credentialed first season sire Fast n Famous (1).
Leon Casey believes the draft has a horse for each type of buyer.
“We have a wonderful cross-section of yearlings. We have got colts with stallion potential, fillies with residual value, yearlings for the Karaka Million, classic yearlings, and yearlings who will suit buyers looking to trade-on.”
Pencarrow Stud yearlings will be stabled in Box H at Karaka with the full draft available for inspection from 9am, Wednesday, 27 January.
