Gifted sprinter Break Free (Fasliyev – Tehama, by Centaine) took out the feature race at Singapore on Friday night, a week before the Turf Club’s International Meeting to be staged this weekend.
The Laurie Laxon trained and Robbie Fradd ridden gelding was successful in the S$75,000 Kranji Stakes (1000m) which carried the richest purse on Singapore’s eleven race card.
The three year old son of Fasliyev won the dash by three and a half lengths in a time of 59.90, 0.30 seconds off his time of 59.60 when scoring over the same course and distance just a week earlier.
Now the winner of five, the last three on the polytrack, Break Free has the exceptional ability of sitting handy to the pace and quickening off it in fine style, often leaving his opposition in his wake with his average winning distance being one and a quarter lengths.
Bred and sold by Pencarrow Stud to Bruce Wallace for $27,500 at the 2007 Karaka Select Yearling Sale, Break Free has now amassed S$222,452 (approx NZ$255,000) in prize money for owners Perfectum Stable.
Break Free is the first foal of Listed CJC Warstep Stakes winner, Tehama, who directly descends from top two-year-old fillies Sharp Walk, placed in the Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes, and Fairy Walk, a winner of the 1971 Group 1 Golden Slipper.
Tehama's second foal, Jesse Owens (Danzero), was sold to David Ellis for $77,500 at Karaka in 2008 and he has trialled once for a second placing in a field of seven for trainer Mark Walker.
Pencarrow Stud will race a yearling Savabeel half-sister to Break Free, while their dam Tehama is due to foal to supreme Aussie sprinter Choisir on August 25.
