Lord Pyrus Now Three from Five

Lord Pyrus (Pyrus x Eminent Walk, by Gaius) won his third race from just five starts when he backed up to score his second consecutive win at Cranbourne over the weekend.

The Judy Mawer trained colt has shown a real liking for Cranbourne, winning all three of his races on the track at 1300m, 1400m, and then stepping up to 1500m to score his latest victory in the Cranbourne TC Luxbet.com Handicap.

The race signalled the black three-year-old’s first start on a track rated heavy, but any doubt of his ability to handle the surface was dispelled when he ran out a three and a half length winner, with a further five lengths back to third place.

Now raced by Bill and Denise Sutcliffe of Master O’Reilly fame, Lord Pyrus was secured by the pair’s son Liam at the 2007 Ready to Run Sale, a Sale he was pin-hooked for by Jessica Prangley who had secured the colt from Pencarrow for $6,000 at the 2006 National Weanling Sale.

Lord Pyrus still has a way to go to match the deeds of his half-siblings Tehama (Centaine) and Darcybee (Fasliyev) who both won at black-type level, but his consistent winning form he lacks none of the family’s ability.

Their dam Eminent Walk is a daughter of former high-class Australian juvenile Sharp Walk (Listed Ottawa Stakes, Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes runner-up), who is out of the Group 1 Golden Slipper Stakes winner Fairy Walk.

The dam of six individual winners, Eminent Walk foaled a chestnut colt by Australian speed star Fast n Famous on 13 September 2008.
