Noble Manor Is All Speed

Noble Manor (Stravinsky x Sarwatch, by Jetball) returned to his favoured 1200m distance and immediately returned to the winner’s circle at Kranji on Friday night.
The Pencarrow-bred galloper who is raced by the Silver Fern Racing Stable in Singapore won the $125,000 Kranji Stakes (A) after uncharacteristically settling off a red hot pace for his jockey Ronnie Stewart.
The three-year-old carried a feather-light weight of 50.5kg as he took on the older horses of this class for the very first time, with his two and a quarter length win signalling he was very much up to this company.
The win notched up four for Noble Manor in Singapore since arriving from New Zealand as a winning juvenile who had placed fourth in the $1,000,000 Karaka Million.
He has now netted close to $300,000 in prize-money, just $80,000 shy of his 2007 Karaka Premier Sale price-tag of $380,000 to the bid of David Ellis.
Laurie Laxon, who now trains Noble Manor, confirmed the gelding will now stick to the shorter trips after an unsuccessful last start run in the second leg of the Singapore 3YO Challenge (1400m).
“Stravinskys are very good sprinters, and I think that’s what he is really, a very good sprinter,” said Laxon.
“I think he’s actually a good Polytrack runner as well. I don’t think he’s ever been beaten in a trial on that surface.”
Pencarrow Stud bred Noble Manor from their New Zealand Filly of the Year Sarwatch, winner of the Group 2 ARC Royal Stakes. A daughter of four-time Group 1 winner Riverina Charm, Sarwatch has been unlucky not have left a black-type horse with both her first foal, Promethean (Grand Lodge), and Noble Manor, both having run fourth in stakes races.
Pencarrow has retained a two-year-old full sister to Noble Manor, while a Redoute’s Choice colt from Sarwatch will head to Karaka for the 2010 National Yearling Sales Series.
Both Sarwatch and her daughter Promethean are due to foal this September, with Sarwatch expecting to O’Reilly and Promethean due eight days earlier to Postponed.
