Pencarrow Breeding Season Begins on Bright Note

Pencarrow Stud’s 2009 breeding season got underway at the weekend when the stud welcomed its first foal, a healthy filly by High Chaparral from Danehill Princess (Danehill) on Friday night, 31 July.

Foaling just after 8.30pm, Danehill Princess birthed her second foal ten days before her estimated 15 August due date.

By top international racehorse and emerging young sire High Chaparral (Sadler’s Wells), whose popularity can be gauged through his full book this season at Windsor Park Stud, the bay filly should have international appeal being a direct descendent of Lianga.

Group 1 winning Lianga (Dancer’s Image) is responsible for leading young sires Danehill Dancer (Danehill) and Mr Greeley (Gone West), as well as Darley’s young Kentucky Derby winning sire Street Sense (Street Cry), with the family active and successful in every major racing jurisdiction.

Six-year-old Danehill Princess’ first foal, a colt by Lonhro, will be offered at the 2010 Karaka Yearling Sales to be held in February.

Pencarrow Stud expects to foal down another sixty plus mares before the end of 2009, a season which has begun on a very bright and healthy note.
