Fears Nothing Now Melbourne Bound
28 Aug 2009Pencarrow bred Fears Nothing (Faltaat x Magical Moment, by Sadler’s Wells) returned to the track yesterday at Foxton for his first start as a four-year-old and the flashy chestnut showed his true class to score handsomely.

A high class three-year-old, Fears Nothing raced in four Group races in his classic year including the Group 1 NZ Derby, with his best performance produced in the Group 3 Waikato Guineas (2000m) where he finished third, two lengths off winner Easy Ryder.

Yesterday the company proved plenty easier in the Palace Lodge Racing Stable Rating 80 (1400m) with a barn-storming finish down the outside of the track in the hands of Michael Walker signalling a return to the winners circle at his tenth start.

Now the winner of three races, Fears Nothing will be aimed at a start in the Group 2 Waterford Crystal Mile on Cox Plate Day at Moonee Valley on October 24.

The win was also special in that it gave the new training partnership of David Haworth and Matt Dixon their first win together in a race they fittingly sponsored on their home track.

Haworth commented,

“It was great to get our first win on the board with Fears Nothing.

He came into the race without a jump-out or trial under his belt and we are very happy with the way he has bounced straight back into winning form in the new season.

He will now head to Melbourne to join up with Caulfield Cup bound MacO’Reilly, with his principal target being the Waterford Crystal Mile on Cox Plate day.”

Haworth has had plenty of success with the stock of Faltaat and even won the 2003 running of the Group 2 Waterford Crystal Mile with another son of the Westbury Stud sire in Rosina Lad.

Further, Haworth trained Jury’s Out (Faltaat) to win a Group 1 Captain Cook Stakes and The Foreman (Faltaat) to win six and place second in last season’s Group 2 City of Auckland Cup.

No doubt this success lead to Haworth purchasing Fears Nothing for $95,000 from the draft of Pencarrow Stud at the 2007 Premier Yearling Sale.

His dam Magical Moment was a part of the package of Northern Hemisphere mares Pencarrow Stud purchased in foal to Danehill in 2002. Having failed to produce a foal since Fears Nothing, Magical Moment just nine days ago foaled an impressive colt (pictured) from the first crop of Pivotal’s Group 1 winning son Excellent Art.

A full sister to Group 3 winner Short Pause and from the family of European Group 1 winners Zambezi Sun (Dansili) and Continent (Lake Coniston), Magical Moment has been booked to visit Group 1 July Cup winner Sakhee’s Secret this season.
