Pencarrow Duo Triumphant at Taupo

The Pencarrow racing team turned out in force at Taupo’s Wednesday meeting with five fillies and mares resuming race-day and all performing admirably.
Three-year-old filly Guiseppina (Johar x Battocchi, by Success Express) again showed her raw racing ability in winning the last event at Taupo in the hands of Michael Walker.
Guiseppina was settled behind mid-field of her thirteen competitors before working into the race at the 700m mark and springing a good turn of foot 300m from home.
Her neck margin victory was scored with relative ease over the top of her rivals and Walker did everything to look after the filly right down to the line.
With Wednesday being just her second start, this was her first win after finishing behind stakes-placed Indisputable (Not a Single Doubt) at Taupo just under a month ago.
The filly from dual Listed winner Battocchi, Guiseppina is expected to compete against the best of her sex and age group later in the season.
She becomes her dam’s fifth winner from as many starters and will now look towards the New Zealand Bloodstock Filly of the Year Series which begins with the Group 3 Gold Trail Stakes at Hawke’s Bay on 19 September.
The Pencarrow Stud colours crossed the line in first position twice at Taupo with Irish-bred Miss Sivivatu (Danehill Dancer x Ahdaab, by Rahy) – raced in partnership with Mrs Sue Magnier - gaining her first victory at her eighth New Zealand start.
Her effort to win by three and a half lengths at 1800m first up this campaign was full of merit and promised plenty for the remainder of the season.
With her full-brother Set Sail placing in the Group 1 Juddmonte International behind See The Stars (Cape Cross) and Mastercraftsman (Danehill Dancer) just a few weeks ago, Miss Sivivatu carries plenty of residual value and her maiden win added further importance to her pedigree page.
Also at Taupo, Amaryllis (Red Ransom x Lafleur, by Zabeel), Star Jasmine (Encosta De Lago x Desert Lily, by Green Desert), and Our Ella Belle (Encosta De Lago x Kirin Belle, by McGinty) all performed well for Pencarrow.
Four-year-old mare Amaryllis showed plenty of promise last season with two wins from five starts, and ran home strongly for third behind Bankside Belle in her first outing of the new season.
The well-bred four-year-old Star Jasmine ran a good fourth placing on debut, while Our Ella Belle was extremely unlucky with four checks in the home straight after searching for gaps close to the rail.
