Winning Double For Owners

Thursday's Hastings race meeting provided a notable winning double for Pencarrow owners.

Pencarrow Stud principals Peter and Philip Vela along with Trevor Farmer and Mark Wyborn share in the ownership of Stalking and The Gaffer who were both successful in fine style at the Hastings meeting.

The same quartet of owners also enjoyed success earlier this season with smart three-year-old Abbey Way.

Stalking became the latest successful representative of promising sire Van Nistelrooy when he captured the honours in the Veterinary Associates Metric Mile.

Trained by Mark Walker at Matamata, Stalking is from Dance My Dance, a mare who is by Sadler's Wells out of the Gr. 1 winnnig mare Tis Juliet.

Walker also trains The Gaffer, a five-year-old gelding by Deputy Governor from The Grin who won the Forbes and Co Sprint (1400m).

The Gaffer is a half-brother to dual Gr. 1 winner The Jewel and is from the same family as such top gallopers as The One, The Dimple and Irish Chance.

Both Stalking and The Gaffer were ridden by top jockey Michael Walker who is leading this season's New Zealand riders' premiership.
