Filly Foal For Ethereal

Ethereal & Foal (2007 BF Stravinsky)Caulfield and Melbourne Cups winner Ethereal has produced a filly foal by Stravinsky at Pencarrow Stud in Cambridge.

Pencarrow Stud manager Leon Casey said Ethereal's fifth foal weighed in at 61kg when she was born on Wednesday.

"The foal is a good size and correct type," Casey said.

Ethereal was a wonderful performer in the 2001/02 racing season with handicap victories in the Gr. I VRC Melbourne Cup and Gr. I VATC Caulfield Cup and a sensational WFA performance to win the Gr. I STC The BMW Stakes.

Ethereal represents the third generation of her Pencarrow Stud family, being out of HK I Hong Kong Cup winner Romanee Conti who in turn is out of the wonderful foundation mare Richebourg.

Ethereal received the Waikato Horse of the Year Award and the Australian Champion Stayer of the Year Award for her multiple Group I wins.

Her first foal, a filly by Giant's Causeway - named Uberalles - finished third in both the Group 2 Great Northern Guineas and Group 1 New Zealand Derby last season.

Her three-year-old filly by the Storm Cat stallion Van Nistelrooy is named Sopra Tutto and has been retained by Pencarrow Stud to race. She is being trained by Mark Walker and is due back in work soon after a spell.

Ethereal's colt by Nureyev’s sire son, Stravinsky, sold for $1,300,000 at the Karaka Premier sale in 2007 and she has a yearling colt by him again this season.

Ethereal will be mated this year to Waikato Stud boom stallion Pins.
