Last year's Group 1 New Zealand Derby placegetter, Uberalles, has been retired to stud.

Leon Casey, general manager of Pencarrow Stud, today announced the retirement from racing of the regally-bred four-year-old mare.

"She has had a few lameness issues and the decision has been made to retire her to stud. She is such a valuable mare," said Casey.

No decision has yet been made on which stallion Uberalles will visit next season.

Uberalles, trained throughout her racing career by Mark Walker at Matamata, is exceptionally well bred being by Giant's Causeway from the Caulfield-Melbourne Cups winner Ethereal.

Two other new members of the broodmare band at Peter and Philip Vela's Pencarrow Stud next spring will be half-sisters Huluava and Vercors.

Huluava, by Pins, won three times during her racing career from the stable of Matamata trainer Mark Walker.

Stakes-winning Vercors (by Catbird) finished fifth in Saturday's Group 1 $200,000 Easter Handicap (1600m) at Ellerslie. She will continue racing during the autumn and then is expected to be retired to stud.

Vercors is the winner of four races to date including the Listed Wairarapa Breeders Stakes at Tauherenikau.
