Kudamm on Track with Win at Te Aroha

The Pencarrow Stud owned Kudamm (4m Cape Cross-Shopping Spree(Sadler’s Wells)) relished the step up to 1600m today with a powerful finish over the concluding stages of the Donaghey’s Lesson “1600” at Te Aroha.

Getting the better of a competitive field, she put half a length between herself and Grande Ballare (Giant’s Causeway) in second place, and Keffiya(Cape Cross) one and a quarter lengths back in third.

Patiently ridden by Opie Bosson, the filly gave the impression that she could develop into a smart middle distance filly this season, given her pedigree, the way she finished off her race and the quality of the opposition she defeated today.

Home of the best shopping in Berlin, Germany, Kudamm, the boulevard, accommodates some of the world’s most important and prestigious designers such as Gucci, Lacoste and Tommy Hilfiger. Kudamm, the racehorse seems to share her namesake’s absolute quality.

Kudamm is by Cape Cross, the internationally acclaimed sire who is well known to throw a good filly, namely Seachange and Ouija Board, and he seems to have left an indefinite amount of that quality here, in his mating with Pencarrow Stud’s very own Shopping Spree (Sadler’s Wells).

Shopping Spree is a daughter of Sadler’s Wells, champion sire and broodmare sire. Shopping Spree herself is out of a full sister to multiple Gr1 winner Zoman (Affirmed). This is also the family of Yellowstone (Rock of Gibraltar), part of the English contingent coming down-under with trainer Jane Chapple-Hyam, to raid this year’s Emirates Melbourne Cup. He is currently at $41 with the T.A.B.

November 4th, Melbourne Cup Day, could be a big day for the family with Kudamm, providing she is fit and well for trainer Mark Walker, likely to start in the Gr3 Cuddle Stakes.

Kudamm has a yearling half sister by Pentire that will be retained by Pencarrow Stud, and Shopping Spree has been served by Champion Australian sire Flying Spur this season.
