Berlin Belle Breaks Through

Pencarrow Stud owned and bred Berlin Belle broke through for her maiden victory yesterday in Australia.

The four year old mare trained by David Hayes won the last race on the Gawler program in South Australia yesterday over 1400m. It was Berlin Belle’s (Black Minnaloushe – Christiana Belle) first victory at her ninth start after being placed second three-times in Victoria.

The bay mare settled beautifully in the hands of jockey Paul Gatt, four back on the rail. Rounding the home bend of the tight turning Gawler circuit, Berlin Belle quickened nicely to score a half length victory in the Warren the Bookie Maiden Plate, with another one and three-quarter-lengths back to third place.

Berlin Belle is bred for success being by Group 1 Irish Two Thousand Guineas winner Black Minnaloushe (Storm Cat) out of Group 2 Cambridge JC Dulcie Stakes winner Christiana Belle (Sackford) who was also raced by Pencarrow Stud.

A half sister to Group 3 winner Zino Belle, Berlin Belle is the seventh winning foal of Christiana Belle, a member of the impressive Belle family who’s Group 1 success recently has included the likes of Anamato (Redoute’s Choice), Dealer Principal (Flying Spur), Dance Hero (Danzero), Belle De Jour (Dehere), Grand Armee (Hennessy), and young Brighthill Farm based sire Perfectly Ready (More Than Ready).

Pencarrow Stud have chosen to race Christiania Belle’s two-year-old filly by Red Ransom and her yearling filly by Pins, while this season she foaled a filly by Darci Brahma, and has since been served by the Champion racehorse again this season.

Berlin Belle now heads to Cheltenham on New Year’s Day for a fillies and mare 1450m race where victory will give the mare an important city win in Australia.
