Pencarrow Yearling a Super Sire Prospect

Pencarrow Stud will offer a Redoute’s Choice colt at Karaka 2009 that will appeal to an international buying bench given his sire potential.

Pencarrow Stud’s Karaka yearling draft is annually stacked full of quality bloodstock, with their international broodmare band represented by progeny whose sires are amongst the most sought after in the Southern Hemisphere.

There is no doubt that the draft can produce future stallions, with multiple Group 1 winning Darci Brahma (Danehill) the real pin up boy. He now stands for $30,000 at The Oaks Stud in Cambridge where he has attracted Australasia’s finest mares in his first two seasons.

Lot 474 - Redoute’s Choice – Encens (Common Grounds) is an individual that oozes sire prospect appeal. By sire sensation Redoute’s Choice (Danehill), this colt is out of a half-sister to Australia’s current leading sire Scenic (Sadler’s Wells).

Scenic progeny have amassed AUS$5,360,000 in prizemoney this season, with nine individual stakes winners, including Group 1 Melbourne Cup winner Viewed. A prolific sire, Scenic has left ten individual Group 1 winners thus far including Group 1 winning two-year-olds Blevic, Shame, and Lochrae, as well as Derby and Oaks winners Universal Prince, Blevic and star filly Episode.

This bay son of Redoute’s Choice is also from the same family as Britain’s Champion Sire from 1993-1996, Rainbow Quest (Blushing Groom). He sired no less than nineteen Group 1 winners including Quest for Fame (English Derby), and is now making his mark as a superb broodmare sire with the likes of Group 1 winners Kris Kin, North Light, and Footstepsinthesand.

Adding further to Lot 474’s credentials is the fact that he is bred on the very successful Danehill-Sharpen Up cross responsible for racehorses and stallions the calibre of Danehill Dancer, Dylan Thomas, Mount Nelson, and Strategic Prince.

Leon Casey of Pencarrow Stud describes their Redoute’s Choice-Encens colt as “a very correct, well balanced, mature individual. He is a very neat, attractive type of Redoute’s Choice”.

His dam Encen’s has left three foals to race including a pair of Sadler’s Well’s horses that both placed in stakes company racing in Europe. Encen’s foaled a quality filly by Darci Brahma this season, and is safely back in foal to the five-time Group 1 winner.
