Bibulous: Two In A Row

Bibulous made it two wins in a row at Te Rapa, a track where the gelding has fashioned a superb record.

The gelding produced an enormous effort to get up by a long neck in the Curraghmore Stud Premier (1400m) on Saturday. The second race on Waikato Gold Cup day attracted a full field of sixteen starters, but it was Bibulous (Faltaat – Battochi, by Success Express) that finished powerfully down the very outside to grab victory after settling towards the rear of the field for most of the journey with stable rider Michael Walker.

Regal Post (Postponed) was beaten just a long neck by the fast finishing Pencarrow-bred, with Pinstar (Pins) a short head further back in third. The time was a decent 1.22.79 for the 1400m journey, impressive considering Loaded Command (Commands) went 1.22.47 for the same journey just three races later in the Open Handicap event.

Bibulous, meaning “fond of or addicted to drink” is trained by Bruce Wallace who’s polish has never seen the Faltaat gelding finish further back than fourth in six career starts with total earnings of $36,525.

Bibulous looks to have a promising future which bodes well for Pencarrow’s very own Battocchi (Success Express). Battocchi won the Listed Matriarch Stakes at Flemington and she is the dam of four foals to race, with all four winning.

The Stud has retained a two-year-old half-sister to Bibulous by Johar and has her in training with Mark Walker. Battocchi successfully foaled a bay colt by Darci Brahma (Danehill) on the 10th of October and will visit the Champion racehorse again this season.
