Reigning New Zealand Bloodstock Filly Of The Year Insouciant (Keeper x Loudenne) finished a nice second behind quality stablemate Princess Coup in an open catchweight trial at Te Teko on Tuesday.

Trainer Mark Walker was very satisfied with Insouciant's effort and declared her right on target for the Group 1 $250,000 Mudgway Partsworld Stakes (1400m) at Hastings on August 30.

Beforehand Insouciant will race next Wednesday at Taupo in a rating 90 1200m event.

Insouciant was ridden in the trial by Opie Bosson who will have the mount in the Mudgway.

"She hates going that way [right-handed] round like she had to at Te Teko," Walker said. "But I was more than happy with the trial."

Insouciant had won a trial last month.

Insouciant's owners, Peter and Philip Vela, were also represented by third placegetter, Abbey Way, in the same trial.

Peter and Philip Vela, who operate Pencarrow Stud, enjoyed success in three other trials at Te Teko to give plenty of encouragement for the new season.

Three-year-old filly Amaryllis (Red Ransom x Lafleur)was successful in an 800m three-year-old catchweight event ahead of stablemate Noble Manor. It was the second trials win for Amaryllis.

The Vela bred-and-owned Kudamm (Cape Cross x Shopping Spree) was an impressive two-length winner of a a maiden catchweight 800m event in the hands of Opie Bosson.

Star Charm (Cape Cross x Sarwatch), ridden by Samantha Collett, won a maiden catchweight 800m trial by half-a-head.

Collett said Star Charm has strengthened up a lot this campaign and she expected her to leave maiden ranks in the not too distant future.
