Pencarrow Scores Winning Pair

Pencarrow breds Kudamm and Don Garcia flew the flag for the Stud at Otaki today, each one sealing a win for breeders Peter & Philip Vela, trainer Mark Walker and jockey Opie Bosson.

In Race 9, the Rating 80 event over 1400m, five-year-old gelding Don Garcia secured his first victory of the new season, following a third placing fresh up at Taupo on 12 September.

By Danehill from Gone West mare, Beyond the Sunset, Don Garcia was purchased from the Karaka Premier Sale by Te Akau principal David Ellis for $1,050,000. Beyond the Sunset has also produced the impressive winner of the Group 2 Matamata Breeders Stakes last season, Te Akau Coup, by Thorn Park. She foaled a bay filly by Darci Brahma at Pencarrow Stud last week, and will visit O'Reilly this season.

In the last of the day at Otaki, four-year-old filly Kudamm put in a dashing display to weave through the field and win impressively by a length and a quarter.

Lightly raced, the win is Kudamm's second from just four career starts.

By Cape Cross, Kudamm is just the second foal of Sadler's Wells mare, Shopping Spree, hence her name taken from the local abbrieviation of Berlin's shopping hub, Kurferstendamm. Her 3YO full sister and 2YO half-sister by Pentire have been retained by the Stud to race.
