Deserved Win For Abbey Way

Lightly raced four-year-old Abbey Way (NZ) (Encosta De Lago x Forlorna) returned to the winners' circle at the Hawera race-meeting on Saturday.

Following two second placings in as many outings this season, Abbey Way started even money favourite for the $18,000 Weir Buses Johnson and gave his supporters no cause for alarm with a comfortable win.

Mark Walker-trained Abbey Way is raced by Pencarrow Stud principals Peter and Philip Vela in partnership with Trevor Farmer and Mark Wyborn.

Bred by Twin Pine Thoroughbreds, he was purchased from the 2006 Karaka Yearling Sales for $300,000 by David Ellis from the draft of Cambridge-based Esker Lodge. Ellis purchased Abbey Way's half-sister by Stravinsky the following year for $240,000, who is yet to race.

Abbey Way's dam, Forlorna (Nashwan), was the winner of five races including the Listed Bendigo Cup in Australia.

Abbey Way has now won three of eight starts to date as well as recording two seconds and two thirds.
