Pencarrow's Premier Draft Well-Received at Karaka 2011

The 2011 Karaka Premier Sale concluded at Karaka yesterday, with Pencarrow Stud contributing to strong results across the two-day auction showcase.

Pencarrow's top price of the Sale came at Lot 233 with the O'Reilly colt from Chimeara - the half-brother to Group 1 winner De Beers - fetching $480,000 to the bid of Te Akau Racing's David Ellis.

Not far behind was the grey colt by Zabeel from Affirmed Lane at Lot 152, a half-brother to multiple Group performer J'Adane, that was bought by leading Melbourne trainer Mark Kavanagh for $420,000.

In the final analysis, Pencarrow sold 16 of its 18 Premier Sale entries for $3,555,000, representing an average of $222,188.

Two lots were unsold through the ring, Lot 132 & Lot 476.

Lot 132: BC Darci Brahma x Vega Sicilia is a later foal who is developing into a strong and professional staying colt. His sire has made an impressive start to his career and the female family is littered with outstanding performers such as Placio de Crystal, Naturalism, Star Dancer and Crystal Palace.

Lot 476: BC Darci Brahma x Paint Me A Dream is a later foal but one that is capable of maturing quickly as he shows ample bone and muscle. He can be one of the earlier Darci Brahmas next season as his relaxed nature and natural maturity come to the fore.

Both lots can be inspected by contacting Stud Manager Leon Casey on 027 490 1325.

Pencarrow has a draft of four colts that will be presented at the Karaka Select Sale starting today (Wednesday 2 Feb) and continuing until Friday. Amongst them one of the highlights of this session, the colt by first season sire Excellent Art from Sadler's Wells mare Magical Moment, a half-brother to recent Group 2 winner Fears Nothing.
