Affirmation Scores Singapore Win

Trainer Mark Walker continues to pile on the winners on Singapore’s Kranji track with his latest performer Affirmation winning the $55,000 Singapore TC Class 4 Handicap (1400m).

Affirmation (Fastnet Rock x Affirmed Lane) won his last start in New Zealand in June last year before being taken over to the Te Akau Singapore operation. The four-year-old has had four previous starts for the Singapore stable, with last night’s win his first since relocating.

Affirmation was bred and sold by Pencarrow Stud and was bought by New Zealand’s leading buyer David Ellis for $700,000 at the 2008 Karaka Premier Sale. The win was the gelding’s third from 14 starts and has taken his earnings to just shy of NZ$50,000.

Well-bred from an American family, Affirmation is a half-brother to the multiple Group 1 placed J’Adane (Danehill) and his dam Affirmed Lane is a sister to the Group 3 winner Lady Affirmed. His grand-dam is the seven-time winner, and Group 3 winner, Festivity, who is the dam of five individual race day winners.

The grey Pencarrow broodmare Affirmed Lane (Affirmed) has an unraced three-year-old son of No Excuse Needed, called Polarity, in the Te Akau Racing stable in New Zealand under the care of Jason Bridgman.

The half-brother to Affirmation by New Zealand’s champion sire Zabeel was bought by the Melbourne Cup and Cox Plate winning Australian trainer Mark Kavanagh at the Karaka Premier Sale earlier this week for $420,000.
