Saxon Off to a Flying Start

Saxon, a son of the Pencarrow Stud owned mare Jeanetta Cochrane is off to a brilliant start to his stud career, already the sire of four individual two-year-old winners from his first ten runners.
A winner of four starts on the track including one as a two-year-old, Saxon (Danehill x Jeanetta Cochrane by Sadler’s Wells) trained on to win the Group 2 QTC Queensland Guineas and the Group 3 BTC Doomben Classic, earning A$300,000 in stakes earnings in a short career on the track.
Like a lot of sires from the Danehill line, their influence at stud can be immediate and this certainly looks to be the case with Saxon. Already the sire of four winners in Valley Girl, Saxabelle, Saxon Coast, and Red Hot Sax who ran second in the Listed WATC Supremacy Stakes, the sire son of Danehill has made a good start to the next phase in his career.
From a strong family, Saxon (Danehill) is out of the Sadler’s Wells mare Jeanetta Cochrane (IRE). This potent cross of two champion sires has a staggering runners to winners ratio of 76%, and has produced Group 1 winners Peeping Fawn and Horatio Nelson.
Saxon is a full brother to the Group 2 placed Power of Destiny and the stakes placed Dane Shakira. His grand-dam Kareena (Riverman) has been a prolific producer, among her daughters and grand-daughters is the stakes winner Karaferya (Green Dancer), the 10 time winner King Carew, Kalamba, the dam of the Group 1 winning Champion Turf Colt in the USA in 2000 in Kalanisi (Doyoun), and Group 2 winner and sire Kalaman – Oriental Magic (Desert Prince). Kalamba is also the dam of the stakes winner and Group 2 placed Kaloura (Sinndar).
Saxon stands at Heytesbury Thoroughbreds in Western Australia and stood for a fee of A$4,400 last season. Jeanetta Cochrane currently has a colt by Choisir at foot and is in foal to Pins. She also has a yearling filly by Darci Brahma which will be retained by the stud.
