Big Masterplan Wins in Singapore

The Pencarrow Stud bred High Chaparral gelding Big Masterplan notched up a strong win in Singapore on Sunday night in the $35,000 Rocket Man Handicap Maiden (1600m).
Trained by the champion trainer Laurie Laxon, Big Masterplan (High Chaparral x Romanee St. Vivant) raced just off the pace in transit and took the lead at the 150 metre mark. Holding on by the narrowest of margins, he held off the fast finishing Rutgerus to win in a photo finish.
It was the first win in five career starts for the four-year-old and he showed plenty of fight in the straight to finish off the race well.
Laxon has assumed his spot at the top of the 2011 Singapore training ranks on 23 wins, five clear of the second placed Steven Burridge and Mark Walker who are on 17 wins each.
From a blueblood family, Big Masterplan is from the two-time winning mare Romanee St. Vivant (Jetball), a half-sister to the four-time Group 1 winning mare Ethereal (Rhythm) and the Group 1 placed Velvet and Satin (Carnegie).
His grand-dam is the Group 3 winning mare Richebourg (Vice Regal), the dam of the Group 1 winner Grand Echezeaux (Zabeel) - dam of the five-time Group 1 winner and young sire Darci Brahma.
Big Masterplan was bought by Laurie Laxon from Pencarrow Stud at the 2008 Karaka Premier Sale for $100,000.
Romanee St. Vivant currently has a two-year-old filly in work by first season sire Fast ‘N’ Famous, a weanling colt by Henrythenavigator, and was served by Keeper in 2010.
