My Scotsgrey Wins Pencarrow Sponsored Race

The running of the $20,000 Open Handicap www.pencarrowstud.co.nz 2100 at Te Rapa on Saturday saw a grand return from the talented stayer and New Zealand Cup winner My Scotsgrey.
Only two starts back from a lengthy spell, My Scotsgrey (Golan x My Chameleon) spent almost 18 months away from the races with a tendon injury, but the Shaune Richie trained six-year-old showed that he has lost none of his ability with a game two-and-three-quarter-length victory.
Ridden by jockey Leith Innes, My Scotsgrey missed the start by almost three lengths and raced at the back of the field in transit before rounding the field at the 600 metres and going after runaway leader Cent Per Cent (Secret Savings).
After looking like having the race wrapped up with 200 metres to go, the Graeme & Debbie Rogerson trained Cent Per Cent never ran out of gas, but My Scotsgrey was full of running and really extended in the final stages, an encouraging performance from the New Zealand Cup winner and a good sign for the coming spring racing.
Pencarrow Stud’s Stud Manager Leon Casey was on hand for the race and was very pleased with the outcome.
“The connections were thrilled and there were a good deal of owners for all the runners present which was great. It was also good to see My Scotsgrey come back after sustaining such a bad injury and win like he did.”
My Scotsgrey has now won five of his 17 starts and has earned over $250,000 in stakes.
