Pencarrow Racing have taken a number of horses across the Tasman for the spring racing and registered its first success yesterday with Dolmabache winning the Sportsbet.com.au Handicap (1600m) at Ballarat.

Trained by Steven Ramsay & Julia Ritchie, Dolmabache (NZ) (Redoute’s Choice x Our Echezeaux) was too good for her rivals in her Australian debut, winning the rating 68 handicap by a short head in a blanket finish for jockey Ben Melham.

It was the first win for the four-year-old this preparation after two runs in New Zealand, the first of which saw her run second fresh up at Te Rapa in mid-September over 1400 metres. Her last start resulted in a close fifth in a rating 70 at Matamata after being caught at the back of the field.

Well-bred, Dolmabache is out of the two-time winning mare Our Echezeaux (Zabeel), a full sister to the Group 1 winning mare Grand Echezeaux, the dam of the multiple Group 1 winner and sire Darci Brahma.

Pencarrow Racing will be shooting for one of the four Group 1 races at Flemington tomorrow with Banchee (NZ) (Oratorio x Miss Jessie Jay) lining up in the Group 1 Myer Classic (1600m) for fillies and mares.

The John Sargent trained mare has only had one start this preparation for a good win at Taupo and will be jumping from the wide gate of 16. The on pace runner More Joyous (More Than Ready) has drawn just inside her in 13.

The talented stakes winning mare Guiseppina (NZ) (Johar x Battocchi) is also being aimed at the Myer Classic. She has fared better in the draw with barrier 10 but will need a late scratching to make the field as she is currently the first emergency in the race.
