Mahanadi Takes Maiden Victory

The well-bred four-year-old Mahanadi broke his maiden status in just his third start today when winning the $8,000 John Martin Memorial Maiden (2180m) at Hokitika.
Trained by Kevin Myers and ridden by jockey David Walsh, Mahanadi (Tiger Hill x Bargibant) came into the special conditions maiden with just two starts under his belt at Taupo and Kumara and proved too good for his opposition as he strode away to win by one-and-a-quarter-lengths.
A well-bred son of Tiger Hill, Mahanadi is from the Sir Tristram mare Bargibant and is a half-brother to Free at Last (Senor Pete) who won the Group 2 WATC Cox Stakes and Listed Tattersall’s Cup and was Group 1 placed during her career.
Bred by Peter and Philip Vela, Pencarrow Stud has had success with Tiger Hill’s progeny before. Pencarrow Racing currently races Martial Art (Tiger Hill) who is trained by Laurie Laxon in Singapore and has won over $430,000 in stakes and placed in the Sgp-1 Singapore Gold Cup in November.
