Maiden Victory for Sovereign Rose

The Pencarrow bred Sovereign Rose claimed the first victory of her career when winning the $5,000 Premium Casing Services Maiden (2000m) at Taranaki on Friday.
In a hard fought victory, Sovereign Rose (Pins x Pavan) raced mid-field with jockey Matthew Cameron in the saddle and was the widest runner entering the straight, taking the lead at the turn and holding off a late challenge from Fair Script (Fast 'N' Famous) to win by half a length.
Bred by Peter and Philip Vela, Sovereign Rose was purchased by David Ellis of Te Akau Stud at New Zealand Bloodstock’s 2009 Karaka Premier Sale for $280,000.
Trained by Jason Bridgman for owners DP & NE Hurst, the four-year-old daughter of Pins has been racing well this preparation running third fresh up and placing in her last run coming into Friday’s race where she was well supported in the market.
The victory was her first from eight career starts which have also netted two placings.
Her half-brother by Darci Brahma was purchased by Michael Freedman and Michael Wallace Bloodstock from Pencarrow Stud at the recent 2012 Premier Sale for $155,000.
From a performing family, Sovereign Rose is a half-sister to the stakes placed Let Loushe (Black Minnaloushe), trained by Lee Freedman, and from the Group 1 placed Centaine mare Pavan, a daughter of the Group 1 Australian Oaks winner Marmalitre (Wolverton).
Pavan currently has a weanling colt by Darci Brahma and was covered by Darci Brahma in 2011.
