Quinta de Lago Opens Pencarrow Double

The Pencarrow raced Quinta de Lago claimed the first leg of a winning double for Pencarrow Stud at Singapore on Friday night when taking the fifth victory of his career in the S$75,000 Kranji Stakes (1800m).

Quinta de Lago (Encosta de Lago x Slip Sliding) was ridden in Friday night’s race by leading jockey Joao Moreira who also claimed a winning double when riding the Pencarrow Stud bred and sold Super Junior (Darci Brahma) to his eye-catching debut victory in the following race.

Prepared by champion trainer Laurie Laxon, the six-year-old settled fourth in the running before making his way forward on the home corner and racing away in the final 200 metres to win by a length.

Quinta de Lago has been in the winning stall three times this year with his previous victory coming in early-May over 1700 metres. His 33 career starts in Singapore has seen the son of Encosta de Lago take five wins and five placings for over S$240,000 in stakes.

Quinta de Lago began his racing career in New Zealand for the now Singapore based trainer Mark Walker and claimed three wins from 14 starts before being taken to Singapore.

A top class yearling, Quinta de Lago was purchased for Pencarrow by David Ellis from Curraghmore Stud for $725,000 at New Zealand Bloodstock’s 2007 Karaka Premier Sale.
