Pencarrow’s pin-up mare Ethereal – winner of the Caulfield Cup/Melbourne Cup double in 2001 – has produced an impressive filly by the young sire Rip Van Winkle (Galileo).

The bay filly was born on Friday night and is the eighth foal from the four-time Group 1 winner.

“She is an impressive filly,” said Pencarrow Stud Manager Leon Casey. “She has all the attributes required to emulate her famous parents with scope, frame and an effortless action. She will be a welcome addition to the Pencarrow racing team in seasons to come.”

Ethereal’s progeny include the Giant's Causeway mare Uberalles, her first foal, who placed in the Group 2 Great Northern Guineas and Group 1 New Zealand Derby. Uberalles has since been sent to stud and her first foal, an Exceed and Excel three-year-old filly named Biddable, will make her race debut for the Pencarrow racing team at Makaraka racecourse in Gisborne tomorrow.

Ethereal has also impressed in the sale ring with her third foal – a colt by Stravinsky – knocked down for $1.3 million at New Zealand Bloodstock’s 2007 Karaka Premier Sale.

The champion mare’s last named foal, Duquesa, a three-year-old filly by Encosta de Lago, will also make her debut for the Pencarrow Racing Team at tomorrow’s Gisborne meeting.

Ethereal will be represented at New Zealand Bloodstock’s National Yearling Sales Series in January 2013 by a yearling colt by Encosta de Lago.

A decision has just been made for Ethereal’s 2012 mating and she will be sent to New Zealand’s 2011/12 Champion sire O’Reilly.

Pencarrow have had 20 foals so far this season and other mares that have recently foaled include the Group 2 winning Giant's Causeway mare Santagostino who produced a colt by champion sire Lonhro. Santagostino will also have a daughter racing in the Pencarrow colours tomorrow at Makaraka, the Darci Brahma three-year-old filly Siciliani, who will be making her race debut.

So far this season Pencarrow mares have produced foals by a number of leading stallions including Commands, Darci Brahma, Encosta de Lago, High Chaparral, Keeper, Pins, Savabeel and Testa Rossa.
