Affirmation Continues Fine Form

The Pencarrow bred Fastnet Rock six-year-old Affirmation took his sixth career win in Singapore last night winning a $55,000 Class 4 1400 metre race for his ex-pat kiwi trainer Mark Walker.

The six-year-old has been racing in top form in his last three races, winning two starts ago in a $35,000 Class 5 (1200m) and then second at his last start in a $55,000 Class 4 (1400m) where he only just missed running down Quite a Man (Testa Rossa) in a tight finish.

Last night’s race saw Affirmation (ex Affirmed Lane) produce a tough performance under jockey Joao Moreira. Ridden back in the field, he was forced to wait for racing room but once in the clear he extended and raced to a bobbing finish with Dynamic Dan (Danetime) with 2.5 lengths to the third placed Oasis Charm (Fusaichi Pegasus).

The win was Affirmation’s sixth in Singapore from 36 starts and has taken his stakes earnings to over $160,000.

Bred by Peter and Philip Vela, Affirmation is by Fastnet Rock and is a three-quarter brother to the Group 1 placed J’Dane (Danehill). His dam is the Group 2 winning American mare Affirmed Lane (Affirmed) who is a sister to the American Group 1 winner Lady Affirmed.

Affirmation was offered by Pencarrow Stud at New Zealand Bloodstock’s 2008 Karaka Premier Sale and was purchased by David Ellis for $700,000.

Affirmed Lane has a yearling colt by High Chaparral which will be entered for sale at Karaka 2013, and she was served by Westbury Stud sire Makfi last season.
