With the Pencarrow bred sire Darci Brahma making a big impact in Singapore this season – leading the Sires Premiership by wins - it was fitting that Pencarrow should provide the 19^th Singapore victory for Darci Brahma’s progeny with Tom successful in the $75,000 Class 3 1400m race on Friday.

Darci Brahma has been a revelation in Singapore this season and his progeny’s 19 victories puts him six wins clear of his nearest rivals Hussonet and fellow kiwi sire Align on 13.

Bred by Pencarrow Stud from their unraced Centaine mare Boito Belle, Tom was purchased by Laurie Laxon New Zealand Bloodstock’s Ready to Run Sale for $80,000.

Trained by Laxon for long time Karaka supporter CK Phua’s Oscar Racing Stable, Tom has been responsible for four of Darci Brahma’s 19 victories, proving a tough performer with his 12 starts also bringing three placings.

Slow out of the gates on Friday, the four-year-old was tenth and racing wide at the 1000 metre mark and was unable to improve in the home corner being boxed in. With jockey Koh Teck Huat finding clear air at the top of the straight, Tom burst down the outside of the track, taking the lead in the final 100 metres and racing away to win by one-and-a-half lengths.

“He’s more than recouped [his $80,000] outlay now and the 1400 metre journey really suited him tonight,” commented Laxon after the race.

“I’ve tried him at a mile before but he pulled too hard, but he likes the pace on and it turned out right for him tonight.

“All his wins have been at 1400 metres, so I’ll probably look for another suitable race over that trip for him.”

Tom is the first foal from the unraced Centaine mare Boito Belle (ex Kirin Belle) who is a member of the highly successful Belle family. Boito Belle is a half-sister to Group 2 winner Winning Belle (Zabeel) and the Pencarrow owned and raced Our Ella Belle (Encosta de Lago) who won the Group 3 Taranaki Cup.

Boito Belle produced a colt by Mastercraftsman last season and is currently in foal to Darci Brahma.
