Micken Takes First Australian Win

The Pencarrow bred Micken, a half-brother to the Pencarrow bred and raced Guiseppina, won his debut in Australia yesterday at Ballarat in a A$30,000 Rating 72 1600 metre race.

Trained by Kevin Myers, Micken (Darci Brahma x Battocchi, by Success Express) resumed his four-year-old season with a close second at Riccarton in mid-September where he was caught in the shadows of the post after taking the lead 200 metres from home.

Yesterday’s race saw Micken claim his third career victory by just short of one-and-a-half lengths and the victory was his first over the mile, with previous race wins coming over 1200 and 1400 metres.

Micken has proven that he is up to Group level in New Zealand when running second in the Group 2 New Zealand Bloodstock Wellington Guineas last season to President Lincoln (O’Reilly).

Bred by Peter and Philip Vela, Micken is from the Success Express mare Battocchi, dam of Group 1 winning sprinter Guiseppina who races in the Pencarrow colours.

Battocchi foaled a brother to Micken in 2011 and was served by Darci Brahma again last season.
