Pencarrow Racing celebrated a successful weekend with Biddable breaking her maiden status and Deliciano finishing second at Te Rapa on Sunday, while Guisppinna was a fast-finishing third in the Group 2 at Counties on Saturday.

Bred and raced by Pencarrow Stud, Biddable (Exceed and Excel x Uberalles, by Giant’s Causeway), was ultra-impressive winning the $7,000 1200 metre fillies maiden by three lengths at her third start. After being taken on in front at her previous start, Opie Bosson positioned her perfectly just behind the pace from a wide gate and once balanced around the corner she ran away to score convincingly.

Her debut run at Makaraka resulted in a gallant second to the exciting Touch Win (Excellent Art) who has now taken his record to three wins from four starts and holds a nomination for the Levin Classic.

“She’s a lovely filly with a lot of upside and Julia and I will discuss with Peter and Philip where we go to from here,” Steven Ramsay commented.

Biddable is the first foal of G1 New Zealand Derby placed Uberalles who in turn is the first foal of Caulfield and Melbourne Cup winner Ethereal. Uberalles’ two-year-old colt by Stravinsky was knocked down to Laurie Laxon for $80,000 at this year’s National Yearling Sales at Karaka and will do his racing in Singapore.

After missing in 2011, Uberalles recently foaled a High Chaparral filly that will be retained by the stud. She has been booked to visit the Waikato Stud based sire Savabeel.

Deliciano (Darci Brahma x Santagostino, by Giants Causeway) raced in blinkers for the first time on Sunday and tried hard when finishing second in the Rating 65 1600 metre race. After dropping back in distance from an unplaced effort over 2000 metres last time, she fought hard all the way to the line to only go down by a long head.

On Saturday Guiseppina (Johar x Battocchi) - the Group 1 Telegraph Handicap winner - showed she was peaking at the right time when a fast-finishing third in the Group 2 Auckland Thoroughbred Breeders Stakes ahead of her Group 1 Captain Cook Stakes tilt.

After running second to Shez Sinsational in the New Zealand Bloodstock Insurance Classic at the beginning of October, trainers Steven Ramsay and Julia Richie freshened the daughter of Johar for the race and were thrilled with her run, coming from last on the point of the turn.

“She’s pulled up well and will head towards the Captain Cook in two weeks time at Trentham”, explained Ramsay.
