At her first appearance on the racetrack, Reset filly Kendoka overcame her inexperience to deliver an impressive win of the 1400m 3YO Maiden event at Ruakaka yesterday.

After getting well back off a hot pace for jockey Matt Cameron, Kendoka (Reset x Kwan, by Sadler’s Wells) came widest of all into the straight and, when she balanced up, sprinted hard to claim an impressive one-and-three-quarter length debut win.

After also winning her most recent trial over 1000 metres, it looks as though the Dean & Donna Logan trained filly is only going to improve with more racetrack experience.

Bred and raced by Pencarrow Stud, Kendoka holds a nomination for the Group 1 New Zealand Oaks in March and her pedigree and debut win yesterday suggest that the further she goes the better she will be.

Kendoka – named after the skilled female Japanese swordswomen- is a half-sister to Martial Art (Tiger Hill) who was offered by Pencarrow Stud and sold to the bid of David Ellis at the 2008 Premier Yearling Sale for $250,000. He performed creditably in New Zealand running second in the Karaka 3YO Mile before he went onto win over $500,000 in stakes in Singapore.

Kwan is an Irish bred daughter of Commanche Belle (Shirley Heights) and from a truly international family that includes Group 1 Ascot Fillies Mile winner Fairy Heights (Fairy King).

Esker Lodge will present a grey filly from Kwan by the exciting first season sire Mastercraftsman at this year’s Karaka Premier Sale at Lot 207.
