Ciron Joins Winning Streak

Pencarrow Racing has enjoyed a successful start to 2013 with six winners this year so far – the most recent of which is Ciron (Darci Brahma x Coutet, by Nuage D'Or) who took his first win in the $7,000 New Zealand Bloodstock Insurance 1400 at Hawke’s Bay yesterday.

Ciron came close to breaking maiden ranks in his first two starts – the second of which was also at Hawke’s Bay – where he ran second and third placings. Yesterday’s race was his sixth appearance and saw him produce a smart performance from his wide barrier of nine for trainer Lisa Latta.

Jockey Kelly Myers put the four-year-old right on the speed before settling second in transit and in the straight he ambled up to race leader Wee Jean (My Halo) and extended to the post to take a three-quarter length victory.

Ciron was bred by Peter and Philip Vela and is a half-brother to the Epsom Handicap winner Allez Suez (Canny Lad) and stakes placed Embraceable You (Rodrigo de Triano).

His dam Coutet, who is now retired, produced eight winners during her stud career. A well-bred mare, she is a half-sister to the Pencarrow bred and raced Group 1 South Australian Oaks winner Marmalitre (Wolverton) and current performer and stakes winner Spacecraft (Galileo).

Ciron was named by the staff at Chateau Coutet in Barsac, France after the river that gives the supreme wine estate the perfect microclimate for the distinctive sweetness of their famous Sauternes.
