Revolutionary Kicks off Big Week in Style

Pencarrow kicked off a big week of racing with a victory at Tauherenikau yesterday courtesy of the John Sargent trained Revolutionary who broke maiden ranks in the $7,000 Wairarapa Time Age Maiden Stayers (2200m).

The three-year-old had been racing in good form having placed in four of her five starts heading into yesterday’s race which was her first over a middle-distance trip.

With her last four starts all run over 1600 metres, Revolutionary (Darci Brahma x Iconic) appreciated the sharp step up in trip and she settled nicely in transit before racing away to a 1.8 length victory over No Escape (Handsome Ransom) who she held off in the last 200 metres.

Bred by Peter and Philip Vela, Revolutionary is from the Centaine mare Iconic who hails from the family of Group 1 winners Dorabella (Postponed) and the Pencarrow bred and raced Insouciant (Keeper).

Revolutionary foaled a colt by Red Giant and was served by Postponed last season.

New Zealand’s feature meeting at Te Rapa on Saturday will see two headline Pencarrow horses contest Group 1 events for trainers Steven Ramsay & Julia Ritchie with Guiseppina (Johar) heading to the Group 1 Waikato Draught Sprint and Dolmabache (Redoute’s Choice) the Group 1 Darci Brahma International Stakes.
