Pencarrow Racing celebrated three winners last week with Revolutionary winning in the Wairapapa on Wednesday and Adolay & North of Sunset both taking victory at Taranaki on Thursday.

A double for trainers Steven Ramsay & Julia Ritchie, Adolay (Fast ‘N’ Famous x Ruppertsberg, by Montjeu) opened the winning account at Taranaki and was well prepped for her debut with three trials coming into the race where she placed in each one.

Ridden by apprentice jockey Bridget Grylls, the three-year-old raced mid-field before pulling away from her rivals in the final stages to win by 1.5 lengths in a performance that suggests she has a bit to offer on the track.

Bred and raced by Peter and Philip Vela in conjunction with Laurie Laxon, Adolay is from the Montjeu mare Ruppertsberg who is a daughter of the Group 1 winning mare Clear Rose. Ruppertsberg foaled a filly by Darci Brahma and was covered again by Darci Brahma last season.

North of Sunset (Red Ransom x Zygadene, by Zabeel) completed the winning double with victory in the $12,000 Horizon Energy Services Maiden F&M (1600m).

The lightly raced three-year-old has had just five starts and broke her maiden status at the meeting after placing at her last start at Avondale, racing on the pace and kicking away to a two length win under jockey Shane Dye.

Bred by Peter and Philip Vela, North of Sunset boasts a strong pedigree being from the Zabeel mare Zygadene – a sister to the Pencarrow bred and raced Lafleur (Zabeel) who in turn is the dam of the Pencarrow bred and raced Amaryllis (Red Ransom) and Papilio (Redoute's Choice).

Zygadene produced a filly by Keeper and was cover by Champion Sire O’Reilly last season.

Pencarrow also saw their top mare Dolmabache (Redoute’s Choice) take on a strong field in Saturday’s $200,000 Group 1 Darci Brahma International Stakes (2000m) running a good second place to Sangster (Savabeel) after finishing a game third in the Group 2 Wellington Cup at her last start.
