Exciting Adolay Two from Two

The exciting three-year-old filly Adolay remained unbeaten today at Awapuni to head a successful day out for Pencarrow Racing with stable mates Allez Rose and Queen of Excuses both notching up second placings.

Trained by Steven Ramsay & Julia Ritchie, Adolay (Fast ‘N’ Famous x Ruppertsberg, by Montjeu) came into today’s $7,000 The Tui Brewery - Leading All The Way Since 1889 Handicap (1200m) after a great performance on debut at Taranaki on 8 February.

The three-year-old won her debut by a sharp 1.5 lengths in a performance that suggested that she has a bit to offer on the track and today’s win confirmed that she is a filly with a bright future.

Ridden by apprentice jockey Miranda Dravizki, the daughter of Fast ‘N’ Famous raced towards the back of the field after being slowly away from the gates, but in the straight she needed little encouragement to run down breakaway leader Tomsk (Magic Ring), racing away to an effortless 1.75 length win.

“I was a bit worried when she was slow away, but she flattened out well and ran a good time,” commented co-trainer Steven Ramsay. “She is a promising filly - two from two is all you can ask for. There are some nice three-year-old fillies races around so we will go home and decide where to take her next.”

Bred and raced by Peter and Philip Vela in conjunction with Laurie Laxon, Adolay is from the Montjeu mare Ruppertsberg who is a daughter of the Group 1 winning mare Clear Rose. Ruppertsberg foaled a filly by Darci Brahma and was covered again by Darci Brahma last season.

The Lisa Latta trained Allez Rose (Chinese Dragon x Allez Noir, by No Excuse Needed) showed that she has come on since her debut where she was unplaced, by running second in today’s $8,000 Waikato Stud 3YO Maiden at her second start.

Ridden by Rosie Myers, the filly came from the back of the field and made up good ground in the straight in an encouraging display from the three-year-old.

Allez Rose is the first foal from her dam Allez Noir who is from the same family as the Australian Group 1 winner Allez Suez.

Queen of Excuses (No Excuse Needed x Kailey Princess, by Danehill) capped off the successful meeting for Pencarrow trainers Steven Ramsay & Julia Ritchie with a good second placing in the $7,000 Power Farming Maiden (1200m).

The three-year-old ran second at her last start on debut at Wairoa and now with two seconds from two races she looks another up-and-comer for Pencarrow Racing.

Bred by Peter and Philip Vela, Queen of Excuses is a half-sister to the stakes placed Prosperous Bid (Carnegie) and Canny Princess (Canny Lad) and is a close relation to Australian Group 1 winner Herculian Prince.

Her dam Kailey Princess foaled a filly by Rip Van Winkle last season.
