Sovereign Rose Takes Second Race Victory

The Pencarrow bred mare Sovereign Rose made a good return to winning form at Timaru yesterday taking her second career victory in the $7,000 Equine Veterinary Services Stayers (2100m).

Raced in the Te Akau colours and trained by Jason Bridgman, Sovereign Rose (Pins x Pavan, by Centaine) clearly enjoyed the step up to 2100 metres, racing mid-field before being produced on the turn by jockey Lisa Allpress and racing to a three-quarter length victory.

The five-year-old broke her maiden in February last year over 2000 metres at Taranaki and her career stats now read 20 starts for two wins and four placings.

Sovereign Rose was offered by Pencarrow Stud at New Zealand Bloodstock’s 2009 Karaka Premier Sale where she was purchased by David Ellis for $280,000.

Bred by Peter and Philip Vela, Sovereign Rose is a half-sister to the stakes placed Let Loushe (Black Minnaloushe) and her dam Pavan is a daughter of the Pencarrow bred and raced Marmalitre (Wolverton) who won the Group 1 South Australian Oaks.

Pavan produced a colt by Darci Brahma and was covered by him again last season.
